The University of Saskatchewan is continually working to enhance security, manage costs and ensure our digital services adapt with a changing environment. After careful review, USask has made the decision to discontinue its email for life program for alumni as of February 15, 2026

What's Changing?


If you are an Alumni: 

Your email will be deactivated on February 15, 2026

If you are a USask alumni but also a faculty/staff member at the university:

If you are an alum, and an active faculty or staff member of the university, your USask email address will not be affected. 

If you are a USask alumni but also a USask retiree:  

Your email will be deactivated on February 15, 2026, unless you are a member of the University of Saskatchewan’s Retirees Association (USRA).

  •  USRA membership includes continued email access as part of its annual fee.
  • If your college or department is funding your email access, it will remain active.

If you are a USask Retiree

Your email will be deactivated on February 15, 2026, unless you are a member of the University of Saskatchewan’s Retirees Association (USRA).

  • USRA membership includes continued email access as part of its annual fee.
  • If your college or department is funding your email access, it will remain active.

If you are a professor emeritus:

Emeriti email accounts are reviewed annually by each college. This change will not impact active Emeriti email accounts.

What you Need to Do Before February 15, 2026 (if desired)


  1. Set Up a Personal Email Account.
    Begin by creating a personal email account with a reputable email service provider. Popular and reliable options include Gmail, Outlook (Microsoft), iCloud (Apple) and Yahoo!.
     
  2. Back Up or Transfer Your Email Data.
    To preserve your email information, you have two options:

    Copy your Data to Another Account (Recommended)
    Using a desktop email client such as Mozilla Thunderbird, add your USask and personal email accountsOnce both accounts are added and synchronized, drag and drop emails from USask to your new account.​​​​​​​

    Forward Important Emails Manually

    If you only need to keep a few key emails:
    1. Open each email you want to keep.
    2. Click forward.
    3. Send it to your new email address. 
  3. Update Your Contact Information
    To ensure uninterrupted access to your accounts and services, update your email address wherever it is currently in use. This includes:
    • Financial institutions and banking services
    • Health care providers (doctors offices, MySaskHealth Record)
    • Government services
    • Streaming services
    • Social media platforms
      If your USask email is used for dual factor authentication on any sites, update those accounts to use your new email address. Change your email in the account settings for each service and verify that confirmation messages are delivered to your new inbox. In some cases you may also need to update your login ID if it was previously your USask email address.
       
  4. Sign Up for Email Forwarding

    To Set Up Forwarding in Outlook (Office 365): 

    1. Log into your university email at https://outlook.office.com 

    2. Click the gear icon (⚙️) in the top right. 

    3. In the search bar, type “Forwarding”. 

    4. Select “Enable forwarding” .

    5. Enter your new email address. 

    6. Check “Keep a copy of forwarded messages” (optional). 

    7. Click Save. 

Frequently Asked Questions


How long will my email account remain active?  

Your account will remain active until February 15, 2026. If you do not want to lose access to its contents, please follow the steps listed in What you Need to Do before February 15, 2026 (if desired)  to save or migrate your account. 

Can I set up automatic email forwarding to a new email address?  

Yes, you can enable email forwarding for the short term. This feature will remain available and functional until February 15, 2026

I missed the deadline to retrieve my data. Is there any way to recover it?

Please note that after the close date of February 15, 2026, accounts cannot be reopened and data cannot be retrieved. We strongly recommend capturing all essential information before this deadline to avoid any loss.

I rarely use my USask alumni email account. Do I need to take any action?  

No action is required if you do not use your USask alumni email account. Please note that the account will be deactivated on February 15, 2026, and any remaining emails or data will be permanently deleted after this date.

How can I update my contact information with the university?  

You can update your contact details by visiting the contact information form..  

What happens if I continue using my USask.ca email address to login to services (e.g., banking, subscriptions)? 

If you do, you risk losing access to those accounts once your alumni email is deactivated.

Are there alternative ways to stay connected with the USask Alumni community?  

Yes! Join our LinkedIn group or follow USask Alumni on Facebook, Instagram, and X. 

Can I still use my alumni address as a login for University Library access?  

Your library access will continue to function with your USask NSID (Login) but email services will no longer work.

My USask email is a primary email address for MyCreds. How do I change it to a non-USask email address?

Before February 15, 2026, follow these steps on how to change your primary email address in MyProfile when you no longer have a USask email account.

I never activated my alumni email account. Does this impact me?

No. Only accounts that are currently active or were previously registered are affected.
