Approval and submission - All special topics courses must be:
- Approved by the academic unit (department head)
- Submitted to CGPS by completing the Graduate Course Proposal: SPECIAL TOPICS (898,899) form
- Submission to CGPS must occur prior to the course offering
- The complete course syllabus must be included for all first offerings
- Instructor Requirements: If the proposed instructor is not a member of CGPS, a recent CV must be included
- Cross-listed courses: if undergraduate lectures are included, the undergraduate syllabus must be provided, as well as information on what additional activities makes the course graduate level.
Submission deadlines:
- August 15: For courses offered Term 1 (September to December)
- August 15: For courses offered Term 1 and Term 2 (September to April)
- December 1: For courses offered Term 2 (January to April)
- April 1: For courses offered for Term 3 (Spring/Summer: May to August)
A Selected Reading or Special Topics Course can be taught twice. For subsequent offerings, the course must be regularized according to the procedures outlined for New Course Proposals.
