A dual degree is a program that exists though an approved agreement with a partner institution. Once an agreement is in place, USask can begin to accept students under that agreement. Graduate administrator responsibilities are in bold below:
-
The student applies to USask as a regular PhD student.
-
In RMS - the graduate administrator makes a note in 'shared notes' to indicate the applicant is dual degree and lists the partner institution.
-
Once the student is admitted by CGPS, the Graduate Program Services Officer (GPSO) adds the DUAL attribute to the student record. This allows us to identify and track dual degree students in Banner.
-
At the start of each term, the graduate administrator submits a general ticket to CGPS, with a list of all the dual degree students in their unit. The ticket must include each students’ name, BID, and which institution they will be at during that term. This is required regardless of whether the student is at USask or their home/partner institution.
-
If the student is at their home/partner institution, the GPSO will register the student in a MSTA 003 placeholder course. This allows the student to maintain their status at USask without paying tuition. While in the MSTA 003, students will be assessed minimal student fees and may choose to maintain their health and dental benefits.
-
When a student completes their degree requirements and applies to convocate, the DUAL attribute in Banner will flag the app for the convocation office. The convocation office then adds a note to Banner and ensure the transcript accurately reflects the Dual Degree program.
